Vacation

A month before I was supposed to have Sam, Mom and I decided to take a road trip! Adam and Jessica had a trip to Hawaii planned, so Mom and I headed to Winnemucca to watch their kids while they got to go play.

Since it's a SUPER long drive, we made a stop in Vegas at Jill and Matt's house to get in some light reading and take a stroll in Scott's wheels.

The next morning we packed up and headed to the Mucc. Luke had a great time with cousins. We went swimming, to the park, out to the local ice cream shop ie. McDonalds, Walmart was a place we frequented. The kids also had their last day of school, so we got to go see Kyra and Kjersten get some awesome awards. Kyra got the highest Math award. We are pretty proud of her.
We also cleaned out the kids closets and James discovered all these toys he had and passed them on to Luke! We totally scored. We had a great time, but no rest for the weary, at the end of the week, we packed up and headed to Utah for the baptism of Emma.
Unfortunately I have no pictures of the actual baptism, which is the most important part, I know! But I did get a lot of pictures of what we were up to the rest of the week! Kim and her family were able to stay as well, we had lots of fun doing all the "Mormon-y" stuff. We went to Heritage Park. The kids loved it here. They had a petting zoo. train riding, necklace making, pining for gold, newspaper making. It was really fun, and we spent the better part of the day here.

Next stop, Thanksgiving Point. This was really fun, Nathan and Luke were comparing their feet to the dinosaurs. I think the dinosaur wins.

I totally caught Carter in action!

We also got to ride the horses and go on a wagon ride, talk to the animals and play with fun toys.

Next stop was Salt Lake. This is what Luke will look like when he speaks in General Conference. Minus Paige, and maybe a little taller?

They had super fun hands on exhibits. Luke liked the fishing one on Nephi's boat.

He also enjoyed feeding the missionaries and Kim.

We ate lunch outside and of course, Grandma had everyone put their feet in the fountain. Some put a little more than just their feet in. Surprisingly enough, no one said anything!

We rounded out the trip with ice cream at iceberg, limbo and lots of laughing.

Unfortunately, our time had come to a close and we had to head home. We miss cousin time, but look forward to more fun soon!

We were only home for 5 days when my Dad decided to have a heart attack, and for journaling purposes, here's the story:  Thursday, Dad took his boys to Lake Powell for the annual "Guys" Trip.  While there he found he was having a hard time breathing with a lot of pressure on his chest.  He hadn't been feeling well for awhile and just chalked it up to "coming down with something".  The pain and pressure subsided on Friday and he went waterskiing as usual.  Saturday night came with the same pain and pressure and continued until Tuesday night, when at the temple, the pain got worse and he was super tired.  He sat down for a minute when another worker looked at him and told him he was having a heart attack.  Dad said he was fine and just needed to finish the last veil.  Darn man won't give up.  Mom and Brother Dickson persisted and mom took dad to the hospital.  On the way, they passed the Alicia exit (home) and dad said to mom, "just take me home, I'm fine, just really tired."  Mom refused and took him straight to the hospital.  At first the thought was he was fine because all his vitals were perfect, upon further inspection it was determined that indeed he was having a heart attack and had been sustaining one for several days - remember Thursday!?  He had seconds to live, and only the skill of wonderful doctors and a very powerful blessing, dad pulled through.  He had one artery completely blocked, and the other two were 70% and 30% blocked.  He now has a stent and is good to go.  It was touch and go for awhile and very scary.  All 8 of us rushed to his bedside, and while the rule in ICU is only 2 visitors at a time, the nurses quickly realized that there is no keeping us out when we are determined, and yes...ALL 8 kids were in the room at any given time, along with Austin and Luke. Luke keeps asking if Grandpa's heart is better. He is doing much better and is on the road to recovery. I'm grateful for my family and how supportive we are of eachother. I'm so grateful for the gospel and the reassurance it is in my life.

I am so sad that I didn't get to go to Utah with you, maybe next year will be different! You have some of the greatest memories and despite the reason we all came together, there's no better than having family. I too am grateful for the gospel and for my family. Love you!
